Saving for a Glorious Day!

Picked up my car from the garage today. It's been repaired (and cleaned) and it's fab. I was so-oo happy and excited to have it back. I just wanted to give it a huge hug, but settled on driving around with a massive smile on my face instead! The courtesy car I was driving around in was 3 years newer than my car, so you'd of thought I'd be disappointed going back to an older model, but having the freebie car just made me appreciate mine more.

It got me thinking about happiness and how we often throw our money away in a vain attempt to create a false sense of contentment. If you've had a bad day at work you might say 'Ohh let's treat ourselves to Chinese tonight, we deserve it' But in reality it doesn't really feel special, in fact it doesn't even feel like a treat. It's just something you're having for tea, it's saved you cooking, but you also feel a bit guilty because that money could have gone towards something else. Indeed that money could have gone towards something which would have made you truly happy. You know that kind of happy where you feel like a small child again, you just want to smile and giggle and be stupid. The kind of happy where your heart throbs in your chest because you're so excited. Isn't it better we save our money for these defining moments, instead of trying to keep up with the Joneses?

For me getting my car back today put me on a real high, as did having a good goss with my Mum (and that was completely gratis!). And, well the last time I felt heart beat fast happy was when one of my friends told me she was getting engaged, and the time before that was when I got George Michael tickets! Sometimes happiness costs nothing, other times it costs as much as a car or a weekend in Manchester. But my point is by saving your money for those defining moments you can turn a year into a series of highs, rather than a meandering menagerie of mediocreness.

Just something for you to bear in mind, next time you come to splash the cash ;-)

Some things are worth going without choccies and magazines for!!
