Due to my uncanny ability to hemorrhage money I'm actually in debt again! Grrr!
In my defense March was an expensive month, with birthday celebrations; gifts to buy for Mothers Day and my brothers birthday; a cut and blow dry to fund; and some essential waxing.
Also, at present I'm still paying out two mobile phone bills while I'm waiting for my Orange contract to come to an end.
With this in mind I've rejigged the budget again (I'm telling you this budget is jiggier than Will Smith's 1998 hit!) and I've got the following priorities:
Aim 1
Save/make £217.14 by the end of April to pay off my March-induced overdraft
Progress: I've put my monthly savings towards this, plus some odd bits of change so now I only need £63.63!
Aim 2
Pay off holiday by April 5th (£290)
Progress: Have withdrawn this from my ISA, didn't really want to do this ahead of April 5th, but thought it better than going further overdrawn!
Aim 3
Save/make £435.00 for holiday spending money by start of June - this includes money for while we're there, travel insurance, getting to the airport, toiletries and holiday clothes.
Progress: Thanks to some birthday money and a bit of odd change I've got this down to £384.88, well, it's a start!
Aim 4
Save/make £115.00 for spending money for my weekend away to see the lovely George Michael by the start of June.
Progress: zilch
Aim 5
Save £300 into a buffer zone for my current account, a kind of rainy day fund.
Progress: zilch
Aim 6
Pay off my Car Loan early - at the moment I would need £2329.40 (obviously this will decrease over time).
Progress: zilch
Aim 7
Save 3 months salary into my ISA (my just in case fund). At present this amounts to £3495.27.
Progress: zilch
Aim 8
Save £755.00 for next years holiday (hoping to visit a friend in Sri Lanka!)
Progress: zilch
Aim 9
Save £5000 towards a deposit for a place of our own.
Progress: zilch
OK, so this has over complicated things further. No longer is the objective as simple as just saving £5k in a year. But this makes more sense in a long term and (hopefully) achievable kind of way.
How am I going to do this? Well, that's what this blogs all about isn't it? In the short term I've cut my budget for entertainment which means April is going to have to be cheap and cheerful! Other than that, keep watching to find out how and if this is possible.
