Savings so Far: -£279.76

These boots were made for walkin'

Well, I did it! I walked into work today. Felt like a pair of filthy pants that have been festering at the bottom of the laundry basket mind you. But needs must. Two days of no pay certainly wouldn't of helped in the race towards £5k. Plus, my boss would of probably started clearing my desk if I had more than one day off post New Year. I must of looked ill today as he kept his distance and even offered to make me a drink. Cripes!

Anyway, I've been working hard to fulfil my mission. I've entered some more competitions on My Offers. So far, the marketing deluge hasn't been too bad, there's just been one number which keeps trying me while I'm at work, which considering I can't answer my phone inside work hours that's not too much of a bother. I received an email from something called Fruitillions, or something along those lines. But that wasn't very interesting at all, it's along the same lines where you get free competition entries for looking at advertising messages, but this time it's much more the health and car insurance kind of offer. I really don't want to be contacted by hundreds of insurance companies when I'm pretty sure my hours of searching on the net means I have the best deal anyway!

My bargain hunting has gone to another level. Today my shopping list consisted of Soya Milk (my fussy stomach doesn't like the moo cow stuff) and Washing up liquid. The Soya Milk I'm stuck with going to Waitrose as they're the only supermarket that does a decent sized unsweetened with calcium. But, I thought I would shop around for the Washing Up liquid. Wilko 98p, Somerfield £1.09 and Waitrose 98p, plus they were on 3 for 2! Result! I'd never normally search around so extensively for something so trivial but it seems this attention to detail could pay off! If I'm honest I cold have gone for own-brand and saved even more, but I have a brand loyalty to Fairy - it would be so annoying, not to mention a false economy to buy own brand and then end up with filth-some dishes now wouldn't it?

Today, I celebrate (not sure that's entirely the right word) one year in my job. It got me thinking, if I want to save £5k then I could do with getting some more money in. The likelihood of getting a pay rise in my current place of work is up there with me bumping into Elvis during my lunch break tomorrow. So, I guess I may soon be looking for something else, especially now I have more qualifications under my belt. Hmm. Really must update the old CV.

As for the walking to and from work, it wasn't too painful, although I had forgotten about the rainstorm that always starts at 5pm, needless to say I was a bit soggy by the time I got home. But needs must, eh? Rome wasn't built in a day. From little acorns, oak trees doth grow - has anyone noticed that I'm using lots of cliches to try and convince myself this is a good idea?
